The article documents the struggles of four Black women in Arkansas as they struggle to find job even though they are well educated. All have master’s degrees, but they were earned online. Also the degrees were in low demand fields. There are complicating factors such as tight job market, location, discrimination and gender. You also have to consider the value of an online degree in a field like criminal justice, where luck and connections maybe more important than a degree.
While, the article describes a sad story in our ultra tight job market., the comments are also enlightening. They give you insight into the general publics view of the four Black women’s situation in Arkansas. Many are supportive, while others are borderline racist, but a strong theme in many of the comments is “blaming the victim” for poor choices.
The article is a great read on the current state of the job market. But we view it as a huge warning sign for employment in the US economy.
