“Dear BlackEconomics.com, Please help me out. I am interested in Black economics, but don’t know where to start. What should I read?”
While we can give a general recommendation(see our list), we cannot tailor our answer to each person’s background, life experience, and education level.
So, our list has filters by rating and categories, so a reader can use the simple filters to find the best book most appropriate for them. Here are some links for using filters in google sheets. Filter 1, Filter 2 and Filter 3.

Ok, we have finally got our act together on a couple of important topics. One of them is “The Comprehensive list of Black economic and Business books.”
The list has a little history behind it. Over the past 10 years, we have constantly gotten the question: What should I read. We started to build the list during a brief time of unemployment and continued to create the list over time.
Note: Rankings are a personal judgment. While we own many of the titles, we have read, skimmed, read excerpts, or reviews of approximately 50% of the titles. There are simply too many.
One more note. The list is a “living” document. We are still updating the categories and rankings. We continue to add new books as they come out.
